Flashback 1977

In the summer of 1977 with myself and my 4 siblings in tow, my Mom drove us from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to the Cascade Mountains of Washington. Our destination, a place deep in the forest called Holden Village. This was a trip sponsored by Grace Lutheran Church , and without a doubt ranks at the top of my experiences growing up.

Pictured here are myself, flanked by two of my brothers, Steve and John. We had just completed a long hike to a lake where we planned to spend the night. Fearful of bears and other night stalkers, I "chickened" out, and made the return hike back to the village. If I recall correctly, my Mom ended up carrying my pack most of the way back.

Here I am again standing with my pack on, with brothers Mike and John in the foreground.

  1. All these years, and here is proof that the "gang-bangers" didn't start the fashion trend of underwear hanging out. It looks like it was Steve in 1977. I never thought of Steve as a trend-setter in fashion, but I guess this proves it!

  2. On a second look, I guess that's his belt from his pack. Oh well, close call. You all have a great weekend out there Dave, we're getting ready to head to Okoboji for the weekend. Say hi to the gang.

  3. I thought you were on to something too, but yeah, I guess it is a belt.

Have fun in Okoboji, and have a great 4th. We just got back from Indiana where we went to get some real fireworks. They don't sell much beyond smoke balls and snakes here in Illinois. It's pathetic.

  4. Hey Dave,

I stopped by Michele's parents shop in Spirit Lake but they took the day off. I would have stopped by their home, but was diverted to a bar down the street, and still had over 20 miles to ride at 1:00.

We had a great time, biked, boated, even saw Lynyrd Skynyrd at Arnolds Park.

Also, I changed my Blog Site to http://worldwiderambling.blogspot.com/ to get a little anonymity (just in case).

Have a great 4th also, and hope to see pictures of the neighborhood parade!
